Queensland’s seniors make an enormous difference in their communities, giving their time, sharing their experience, and helping others feel a sense of belonging. This month, Queensland Seniors Month is all about celebrating them.
Neighbourhood Centres offer a great example of just how much older people bring to community life through their lived experience as well as the countless hours they dedicate as volunteers and community leaders. Their generosity helps keep Centres open and welcoming places for everyone.
Neighbourhood Centres could not operate at the capacity they do without volunteers from the local community contributing their time to assist others. Seniors play a major role in this, particularly in smaller communities, where Centres often rely on older residents as volunteers.
The 2025 Queensland Seniors Month theme, “Connect and Celebrate,” recognises that strong communities are connected communities. It reflects the essence of what Neighbourhood Centres do, creating spaces where older people can come together, share their skills and stories, and feel a sense of belonging and purpose.
As we connect and celebrate this Seniors Month, we thank Queensland’s seniors for the essential role they play in helping communities to thrive.
