It’s National Volunteer Week (19-25 May) and we’re celebrating volunteers and their role in connecting communities!

Whether it’s greeting visitors, tending to the community garden, running programs or working in the food pantry, volunteers are involved in nearly every aspect of life at Neighbourhood Centres.

Encircle Community Services who run the Pine Rivers, Kallangur and Redcliffe Neighbourhood Centres, have over 120 volunteers working across all locations and departments. Events are being held at Lawnton and Redcliffe to thank their incredible volunteers for everything they do.

Pomona & District Community House Inc is saying a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who enrich their community by inviting them to a “Volunteers Pamper” with good company, afternoon tea and treats.

Many Centres, including Better Together Community SupportThe Community PlaceInala Community HouseThe Neighbourhood HubNambour Community Centre are posting heartfelt messages of thanks to their volunteers on their social media pages.

Monto Neighbourhood Centre and Harvey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) are emphasising the incredible work of their volunteers by sharing personal stories and reflections on what volunteering has meant to them, what they’ve learned, what they enjoy, and how it’s enriched their lives.

Centres such as Mt Gravatt Community Centre and Bulimba Community Centre share these kinds of stories throughout the year, regularly celebrating the people who make their work possible.

Many Centres regularly open their doors to provide support with hot meals, clean laundry, medical care, connection and compassion to those doing it tough in their community. This would not be possible without the work of incredible volunteers.

Just last week, kitchen volunteers at Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre Inc. fed over 110 people a hot meal, whilst their volunteer nurses and doctors provided much needed health support.

Volunteering is a fantastic way to give back to your local community, whilst also offering the opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and make friends. Why not ask your local Neighbourhood or Community Centre about ways you can help?

To every volunteer:

Because of you, Neighbourhood Centres can continue to change lives.

Your generosity makes it possible for Centres to reach more people, offer essential support, and continue to provide spaces where everyone feels safe, welcome, and part of a community.

You bring hope, dignity, and belonging in ways that may sometimes go unseen, but are never unfelt.

Thank you.
