Thanks to Mareeba Community Centre and the amazing contributions of twelve Mareeba community members who have openly and genuinely shared their stories of struggle, strength and resilience through incredibly tough and trying times; the Mareeba Stories of Resilience video series has been completed and is now available for viewing on the website here.
The series is incredibly moving and contains reflections on natural disasters (bushfire), homelessness, domestic violence, grief & loss, sudden death, serious injury, death of a child, mental illness, immigration and loneliness. It is also inspiring as we hear the stories of resilience as people respond to these challenges.
On the website, you’ll find the main video (16 mins) which contains key components of the interviews and undertakes a thematic analysis of facets of resilience, based on Resilience Theory. Also uploaded are shorter videos which focus on each participant’s story and provide more background to the participant’s experiences as well as their recommendations for building resilience.
Julie Theakston, Manager of Mareeba Community Centre, invites everyone to promote and share the videos through your networks, and, if you see fit, you are welcome to make use of the videos in any events or activities you might be holding.
