Ally joined the team at the start of this year and is working with us to support our communications and digital engagement projects. She has worked in the non-profit sector since 2012, obtained her Bachelor of Communications (Media Studies) in 2019 and is currently studying a Bachelor of Laws (Honours).

Originally from Sydney, Ally made the move to Brisbane in 2019 to continue her work in the non-profit sector. Her focus has been on initiatives promoting the wellbeing of children, families, and the prevention of domestic, family, and sexual violence through respectful relationships education.

In 2020, Ally travelled Australia with her partner, navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 lockdown in a range of regional areas. Throughout this experience, she discovered not only the diversity, but the resilience of communities throughout the country, and their unique strengths in working together despite the pandemic.

Through her work and travels, she learnt about the value that social connectedness brings to people’s overall health and wellbeing. This drew Ally to her work in the Neighbourhood and Community Sector.

“When someone feels a sense of belonging and connection to their community, it increases their wellbeing. Neighbourhood Centres play a critical role in fostering this link between individuals and their communities.”

Ally’s roles have ranged from communications, digital marketing, operations, contract management, grant writing and executive support. She aims to use her skills to connect with Neighbourhood Centres, elevate their achievements and impact, and to cultivate a sense of belonging within the sector.

“I’ve already learnt so much about the transformative work of Neighbourhood Centres and the integral role they play in providing support for their communities. I’m really looking forward to using my communications skills to celebrate the impactful work of Centres across Queensland.”

Ally is passionate about social change and strongly believes in the importance of connected communities in nurturing social inclusion, mental health and helping children and families to thrive.

Outside of work, Ally enjoys spending quality time with her partner and 11-year-old rescue Kelpie and adventuring to find new camping destinations.
