At the end of last year, NCQ CEO, Cate Akaveka, along with NCQ Chair, Sandra Elton, visited over ten Neighbourhood Centres across Far North Queensland, including Kuranda Neighbourhood Centre, Mareeba Community Centre, ECHO in Malanda, Better Together in Atherton, Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre, Mossman Neighbourhood Centre, Port Douglas Community Services, Babinda Task Force, Community Support Centre Innisfail, Hambledon House Community Centre, and Manoora Neighbourhood Centre.
The visits highlighted how each Neighbourhood Centre is uniquely place-based, reflecting the specific needs and strengths of their local community. Cate had the chance to engage with staff and volunteers, learn more about their programs and services, and see the vibrant, community-focussed spaces they have created to support local people.
Neighbourhood Centres play a vital role in promoting resilience and connection, and we are proud to see the incredible work being done across the region. A big thank you to all the Centres for sharing their stories and showcasing the impact they make every day.
