We’re excited to announce that Neighbourhood Centres Queensland (NCQ) has secured funding from the Queensland Government Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET) to develop three new sector‑specific micro‑credentials, supporting the ongoing workforce growth and development across Queensland’s Neighbourhood Centres and creating clearer pathways for people looking to enter or develop their capabilities in the sector.
This funding will support new training in:
- Neighbourhood Centre Management Essentials – focusing on strengthening core management skills and supporting effective leadership in a sector that balances community‑led practice with service delivery.
- Community‑led Disaster Resilience – focusing on building our Neighbourhood Centre workforce’s capacity to support community‑led preparedness, response, and recovery.
- Creating Welcoming Spaces – focusing on practical skills to help Centres create socially connected, inclusive and welcoming environments for a diverse range of people.
These micro‑credentials will be short courses, that are free, self-paced, and available online on demand. As with our first two micro-credential courses, they will be co-developed with the sector, and support practical outcomes.
Importantly, the first two micro‑credentials, Introduction to Neighbourhood Centres and Overview of Community Development in Neighbourhood Centres, will continue to be available. They are currently hosted by CQU (you can enrol here).
With the Neighbourhood Centre workforce growing by 37% in two years and hours up 58%, this support comes at a crucial time, expanding micro‑credentials that support induction, upskilling and career pathways for staff, volunteers, students and others entering the sector.
