This National NAIDOC Week, Neighbourhood Centres across Queensland are celebrating the rich history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
’50 Years of Deadly’ marks a significant milestone, celebrating five decades of NAIDOC Week and the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. It honours the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who created space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who have continued to celebrate culture, truth and resilience year after year.
Neighbourhood Centres are proud to walk alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by supporting local celebrations of culture, listening and learning from First Nations people and organisations, and creating welcoming spaces where culture and community can thrive.
Here’s a list of just some of the events taking place at Neighbourhood Centres across the state as part of National NAIDOC Week:
đź–¤ Elorac Place – Wesley Mission Queensland – free community event on Thursday, July 16th, from 3pm – 5pm. Enjoy cultural performances, free food and drinks, art and craft workshops, children’s activities, information stalls, local makers, and a dedicated Elders area
đź’› Nambour Community Centre – Namba Yarn Up (for First Nations people and their families) and Namba NAIDOC (for all community members) were held earlier this week
❤️ Manoora Neighbourhood Centre – Community BBQ – Friday July 10th 1pm – 3pm
đź–¤ Bundaberg & District Neighbourhood Centre – Futsal Social Games 2026 – Join in during NAIDOC Week for a fun day of multicultural futsal, FREE food and community connection at Shalom College on Saturday 11th July, 10am – 3pm
đź’› Upper Ross Community Centre – Community Lunch – July 8th 11:30am – 2pm
❤️ Picabeen Community Centre – NAIDOC Playgroup painting activities were held earlier this week
đź–¤ Graham House Community Centre – A special 50th Birthday Celebration for NAIDOC Week with cultural experiences, music and entertainment, yarns and connection, and delicious food – July 15th 10am – 1pm.
💛 Encircle Kallangur Neighbourhood Centre partnered with Deadly Choices and volunteers to run a community event for over 350 smiling faces. There were a range of activities for all ages, including Indigenous painting and rugby league skill drills.
